The steel structure, which represents the grain of a block of timber, is illuminated from within at night.

"For this design project, TV sets were chosen as the product category. In 1962, Sony introduced the "micro TV," the world's smallest and lightest portable set at the time. It was the moment transistors redefined television in our lives. There was a drive to make TV sets with a more human touch for personal enjoyment, sets we would develop an affection for and even want to touch. Designers also sought TV sets that were so cute and appealing, people would want to hold them in their hand as they watched."

"Friends With You designed and directed “The World of Harajuku Lovers,” a :45 opus of cuteness premiering on the web presence of Gwen Stefani’s Harajuku Lovers Fragrance.

This would probably be a Quickie if it wasn’t for all the people involved in making it. From the look of the credits, this was a rigorously collaborative effort: The CG animation was handled by PandaPanther while the cel animation was created by anime powerhouses Xebec in Tokyo. Given all the cooks in the kitchen, I’d say the whole thing gels together nicely."

“Hayashi Shigeki, from Tajimi City, draws inspiration for his ceramic figures from images from science fiction, animated film and Japanese comic books known as manga, all of which have attracted him since he was a child. CHANEL MOBILE ART TOUR NEW YORK

Chanel’s mobile art pavilion continues its tour with an opening today in Central Park. The structure designed by architect Zaha Hadid was engineered to reflect a traditional quilted Chanel bag. Featuring works from 20 artists around the globe, the show is definitely something to check out, especially with free admission.

Levi's x Damien Hirst Fall 2008 Collection

Art collectors and denim connoisseurs have a new object of desire; a handful of ultra-rare Levi’s® 1947 501® jeans turned into unique works of art by celebrated contemporary artist Damien Hirst.

Hirst, whose works recently fetched an amazing £111 million in just two days, breaking all auction records previously held by Picasso, has turned seven pairs of iconic 1947 501® jeans into canvases to create unique signature Spin Paintings.

Just one of these striking pieces will be exhibited and sold in the UK to mark the arrival of the Damien Hirst X Levi’s® collection. With a reserve price of £15,000, it will be unveiled at Cinch, Newburgh St, from Wednesday 16th October, where it will be sold through a silent auction. Full details will be available in store.

The Levi’s® X Damien Hirst collection revolves around three key themes of Damien Hirst’s body of work – the skull, spots and tropical butterfly. Levi’s® 501® jeans in black and over-dye blue are teamed with white, black and deep purple rock-inspired T-shirts emblazoned with iconic Hirst imagery – tropical butterflies, dots and skulls.

SECOND SOLAR SPACESHIP

The small German city of Böblingen is now home to what might be the world’s biggest and most elaborate children’s toy.

The Second Solar spaceship, designed by Different Futures and constructed for the Sensapolis fun park earlier this year, is a three-level, 850 sq m interactive replica of a real shuttle, albeit one better suited to exploration of the cognitive rather than the galactic variety.

The interior of the installation, which includes a 3-D cinema, a laboratory, a warp-core, a medical centre and an alien breeding ground, was designed by Clostermann Design in conjunction with Kohlbecker Architekten. The set even includes jet turbines and circular docking pods ready to connect to orbiting stations.

X-SYSTEM

Brisbane designer Alexander Lotersztain has created X-System, a shelving system for Australian brand Planex.

The modular system features X-shaped pillars that slot into rails on the shelves, and only requires an Allen key for assembly.
