Innocence & Arsenik Winter '09 Collection

Borrowing its name from the 18th Century Swedish book "The Queen’s Jewel," designer Mira Nameth's new fashion line Innocence & Arsenik channels a romantically dark sensibility incorporating nods to ancient Egypt, Geishas and corsetry in sensuously draping fabrics. Currently on display at NYC pop-up International Playground, a shop dedicated to designers from England, Denmark, the U.S. and Sweden, people in NYC can check out an event celebrating the label tomorrow and visit the shop through 22 December.

Much like "The Queen's Jewel" author Carl Jonas Love Almqvist—an early feminist, romantic poet, composer and traveler—Mira's collection balances seductively antiquated elegance with demure cuts and colors like muted golds and grays. Thanks to the Sweden-born, Brooklyn-based designer's background as an illustrator, some of the silks feature hand-printed patterns, and her understanding of contours translates into gorgeously fluid lines and modern shapes.
