The Shift Bicycle

The Shift Bicycle helps children learn how to balance on their own.

This shifting rear wheels help balance the bike at slow speeds and removing the fear of possible injury. As the child builds up forward momentum, the wheels shift inward due to decreased weight on the rear wheels, thus causing the balance to gradually shift from the bicycle to the child. The bike also features a swinging gear that allows rear wheels to go in and out. Designed by Matt Grossman, this design awarded at the 9th International Bicycle Design Competition in Taipei.
