Several Lucrative Art Series To End, Says Damien Hirst

In a video interview from July recently posted on Sotheby’s website, Damien Hirst casually revealed that several of his highest earning series would be coming to an end in 2008. These include his spin and butterfly paintings and conceptual medicine cabinets. Hirst also speculated that production of his dot paintings would significantly slow, and that his formaldehyde works of animals are growing numbered as well.

I am 8-bit has combined art and toys with their smart series of fliers from Scott C. Each flier can be cut out to assemble paper toys featuring a fictional arcade game, player, and flavorful accessories. Taking a cue from collectible toys, Scott C. created not one but four different fliers – one main edition and three exclusive variants, each available at a different retailer – Munky King, Gallery Nucleus, and Golden Apple Comics. Andy Warhol x Hysteric Glamour 400% Bearbrick

Hysteric Glamour worked on a Bearbrick in collaboration with the Andy Warhol Foundation for Isetan Japan. The collaborative Bearbrick will be available from 10th to 26th September 2008 at Hysteric Glamour's Concept Store in Isetan Shinjuku. The 50% version of the Bearbrick will be given to customers who purchase at the store and the 400% Be@rbrick will be available at ¥8190.

LIGHT SCULPTURE - SITOOTERIE II

The directors of the National Malus (crab-apple) Collection invited Heatherwick Studio to develop the design of the structure called the Sitooterie for their site in Essex.

The structure is a cube punctured by over 5000 long thin windows that project from all its surfaces and lift it off the ground. The cube, which measures 2.4 x 2.4 metres, is precision-machined from 15mm anodised aluminium and the windows are 18mm square-section aluminium tubes glazed with transparent orange acrylic.

As the long thin windows all point at the exact centre of the cube, it only takes a single light source, located at this central point, to send light through every tube, causing the windows to glow orange. A small number of them also project into the cube to form seating.
